Parcel Monitor: Introduction to Supply Chain Management

Supply chain management (SCM) is the coordination and management of activities involved in the production and distribution of products or services, from the sourcing of raw materials to the last-mile delivery of items to end-customers. Effective SCM is critical to the success of any business as it can help organizations improve their competitiveness, increase profitability, and meet the ever-changing customer expectations.

Due to recent events around the world, the significance of SCM has grown even greater. The unprecedented challenges caused by the pandemic has highlighted the vulnerability of traditional supply chain models and has demonstrated the need for more resilient and agile supply chain systems. Having to deal with the fluctuating consumer demand, delays arising from port congestion, increasing freight costs and so on has led to companies having a greater appreciation of the role SCM plays in ensuring business continuity.
