Carbon Savings from Amazon Freight’s Intermodal Service

In 2023, Amazon grew its use of rail and sea transportation by 50% across Europe. Shippers moving freight can now do so via truck, train or ship. We’re partnering with European carriers to move products via more than 100 rail lanes and over 300 sea routes to speed up customer deliveries and inventory transfers. Compared to road equivalent shipping, rail transport provides cleaner transportation and reduces emissions by up to 56%. Amazon Intermodal Sea similarly cuts carbon emissions by up to 45%. In 2024, we will continue to scale our intermodal operations via sea and rail across Europe, reducing our CO2 emissions immensely. You can read more on our official announcement page, where you can also watch video case studies on how our intermodal services are already delivering value for our customers.
